Tools I Actually Use: Raycast

What Is It?
Raycast is a fast, keyboard-focused launcher for macOS that replaces Spotlight with something more powerful. It gives you instant access to your apps, files, clipboard history, system settings, and a wide range of integrations through its extension library. From task management to secure logins to quick note creation, Raycast becomes a single command interface for everything you use daily.
What makes it stand out is how little friction it introduces. It stays out of the way until you need it, and once you start using it, it quickly becomes second nature.

Why I Use It
Raycast makes my Mac feel faster and more intelligent. It’s not just a replacement for Spotlight—it’s an upgrade to how I interact with the entire system. I don’t like wasting time jumping between apps or using the mouse to perform simple actions. Raycast removes that friction and keeps me in flow.
It also integrates cleanly with the tools I already use, like Todoist, 1Password, and Obsidian. It’s a single place to launch, create, and manage my day without switching contexts.
How I Use It
Raycast plays a central role in how I work, and I rely on it for:
-
App and File Launching
I use Raycast more than I use the Dock or Finder. Being a long time Mac user, I haven’t broken out of the habit completely, but with Raycast, a few keystrokes and I’m in the app or file I need, with no wasted motion. -
Clipboard History
Every time I copy something, it’s saved in the clipboard manager. I revisit past items constantly and never lose a copied link or note. -
Snippets
I store reusable blocks of text—email intros, markdown templates, common responses—and paste them instantly from Raycast. This is the feature I reach for most often. -
Todoist Integration
I create, review, and complete tasks using the Todoist extension. It’s faster than opening the app and keeps me focused. -
1Password Access
I search and open login credentials through the 1Password extension. It saves time and keeps my workflow secure. -
Calendar, System Controls, and Window Management
I check meetings, toggle system settings, and move windows around with keyboard commands. Raycast helps me manage my environment without breaking rhythm. -
Note Creation for Obsidian
I use Raycast to quickly capture ideas or thoughts that get saved into my Obsidian vault. This keeps the barrier to note-taking low and my thinking organized. -
Pro Features
With Raycast Pro, I use custom themes and leverage the built-in AI tools to help format or generate quick content, like email replies or task drafts.Want to supercharge your Mac workflow? Try Raycast Pro for free and unlock even more automation.

What I Don’t Use It For
I try to keep Raycast focused, so I don’t install every extension available. I don’t treat it like an everything-app. Instead, I use it as a clean, efficient interface to the tools I rely on daily.
I also don’t use it for full writing or project management. Obsidian handles my long-form thinking, and Notion organizes broader systems and shared work.
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely. Raycast is one of those rare tools that actually speeds you up without getting in the way. If you’re on a Mac and care about working with intent and efficiency, try it. Start with app launching and clipboard history, then layer in extensions over time. The more you use it, the more it adapts to you.
If you want a smoother, smarter way to work on a Mac, Raycast is worth your time.
